About KP

KP and RP eating in Rome

As a stay-at-home mom with two small kids, cooking fresh and healthy food is a priority of mine. I grew up in Michigan and moved to Georgia for a few years after college. I then lived in Northern California for 8 years. Most recently, my family and I moved overseas to 3 different countries in as many years–First Amsterdam, then Denmark, then Luxembourg! Now we’re back in sunny Palo Alto California. The point is this…my cooking has evolved over the years as I’ve experienced new places and new foods. I have Mid-West roots, so still like a good casserole recipe. I learned many Asian and Mexican recipes in California. And Europe…well that has taught me to think about food completely differently than I’m used to. I hope the recipes I post reflect what I’ve learned from it all!

Why I started this site

I love to cook. It relaxes me. (Of course, now I have kids that head-butt my legs as I’m doing it, but I still enjoy it.) I really started cooking in college for my roommates…and they loved it. So I kept cooking, not only for myself, but for others. And the more compliments I got, the more confident I got. It took years before I felt brave enough to go “off-recipe”. But now that’s the part I like the most–editing current recipes and creating my own. I get many requests for recipes and I love to share them with others. So I created this site to do just that. I know there are thousands of cookbooks, websites, and magazines with cooking tips and recipes–I look at many of them while my children nap. Consider this website the best-of-the-best of those resources. I’ll do all the work for you. I’ll find the recipes, test them on willing friends and family, and only post the good stuff! If I post an exact recipe, I’ll tell you where I found it. If I tweak a recipe or create a new one, consider it a KP original. Hope you like what you find here!!

My food philosophy

Eat really good food. And enjoy every bite. Eat fresh food. Fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, fresh meats and fresh baked breads. Eat local foods, in as many places as you can. Eat shortbread in Scotland, eat croissants and drink coffee in Paris, eat french fries with fritessaus in Amsterdam, eat olive oil and arugula in Rome, drink wine in Tuscany, drink beer in Germany, eat butter in Denmark, eat paella?in Spain, eat guacamole in Mexico, eat chocolate in Belgium. Eat cherries in Michigan, eat artichokes in California, eat steak in Texas. You get the idea :)

Throw out all that low-fat, and “light” stuff you have at home. It tastes awful! Eat less of the real stuff and I promise you’ll be glad you did. Don’t even walk down the canned food aisle in the grocery store. Again, it tastes awful. And please…don’t eat any more fast food. Blech! Nothing good comes from there, no matter what their current advertising tells you.

Think about what you eat in a day…how much fruit did you eat today? How many veggies? Focus on real, fresh food and the calories and fat won’t need to be counted as much.

Food is more than our fuel–it should be savored and enjoyed. Cheers!
